Bishop Eusebius Jelous Nyathi (born August 2, 1974, in Hwange, Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe) is a Zimbabwean Catholic prelate appointed by Pope Francis as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gokwe on June 23, 2023. After receiving his early formation at Dete Minor Seminary and Mazowe Preparatory Seminary, he pursued philosophical and theological studies at Chishawasha National Major Seminary, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later specialized in Dogmatic Theology at the Diocesan Seminary of Tenerife in Spain (2011–2013), where he obtained a licentiate, and also earned a diploma in Canon Law from Pontifical Urban University in Rome. Ordained a priest for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hwange on July 17, 2004, by Robert Christopher Ndlovu, he served in several pastoral and formation roles including Vice-Rector and Rector of Hwange Minor Seminary, Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish, and Director of the Chimuniko Pastoral Centre. From 2014 he served as lecturer and formator at Chishawasha National Major Seminary, becoming Vice-Rector in 2016 and Rector in 2022. Upon his episcopal appointment in 2023, he succeeded Rudolf Nyandoro and has emphasized building a self-reliant local Church and promoting unity among the faithful across different cultural backgrounds. ✝️
